The James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital Chief of Staff Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Radiation Oncologist. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

The staff Radiation Oncologist reports to the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service, Chief of Staff, and Medical Center Director.
Functions locally as a team member of the Radiation Oncology Service with a regular interface with the Chief of Radiation Oncology Service.
Duties may include but not limited to the following;
Works with and is supported by Radiation Oncology Service leadership. Provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned.
Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocation.
Works directly with Chief, Radiation Oncology Service to assist in ensuring adequate and appropriate staffing.
Participates in recruitment, hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions for staff.
Works with the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service and other staff as appropriate, supports operations issues/problems resolution in a logical, stepwise fashion.
Participates in a forum in which staff identify, communicate, and resolve issues related to Radiation Oncology Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates.
Works with the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service and other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, strategic plans and initiatives.
Supervise and educates residents.
Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN 8's goals. Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for patients within the Medical Center and VISN 8.
Has basic understanding of managed care practices, includinghealth care finance, billing, coding and documentation. Knowledge, ability and willingness to use and promote the dissemination among clinical staff of current automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, patient orders, etc.
Contributes to the development, maintenance and enhancement of relations with internal and external entities including but not limited to: medical and nursing schools, local public and private health care entities, colleagues in other Patient Services and Integrated Services such as Information Technology, Laboratory, and Business Office, labor, and VISN.
Participates in Radiation Oncology Service strategic planning.,
Participates in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings or committees.
Provides direct patient care as a consultant in outpatient clinics and/or inpatient wards and will participate in the Radiation Oncology Service on call schedule.
Performance reflects and demonstrates support of the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service, Chief of Staff, Medical Center Director's, VISN Network and national goals.
Participates in regular peer review activities.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday- 8:00am - 4:30pm
(Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
