Radiation Oncologist – Baltimore, Maryland
Long-Term Federal Healthcare Opportunity | 0.75–1.0 FTE | Independent Contractor
ABR Consulting LLC, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), in conjunction with Cancer CarePoint, is recruiting an experienced, board-certified Radiation Oncologist for an anticipated long-term engagement supporting the Baltimore VA Medical Center Radiation Oncology Clinical Care Center in Baltimore, Maryland. There is an IMMEDIATE need for a radiation oncologist and the suitable candidate would ideally be ready to commence work in fall 2026 (but we are happy to discuss a suitable timeline for the right candidate).
This is an onsite independent-contractor opportunity expected to range from 0.75 to 1.0 FTE, with a guaranteed minimum workload equivalent to approximately 1,560 hours annually (0.75 FTE). The required workload may flex up to 1.0 FTE (2080 hours) annually depending on VA needs.
Compensation for the independent contractor position will be determined based on the physician’s skill and experience, and will range from $425,000 - $500,000 annually for a 0.75 FTE arrangement, and $550,000-$650,000 annually if VA needs flex to a 1.0 FTE arrangement.
The physician will work alongside VA-employed Radiation Oncologists and an established multidisciplinary oncology team. Current clinical support includes five radiation therapists (one Chief RTT and four Staff RTTs), one dosimetrist, two medical physicists, three nurses plus a CNA, and administrative support. Dedicated onsite dosimetry and medical physics support will be available.
The Baltimore VA provides a diverse but manageable Radiation Oncology practice that offers most forms of modern external beam photon radiation therapy (IMRT/VMAT, 3DCRT, IGRT, SRS, SBRT, and electrons) but does not perform any brachytherapy. The VA replaced their linear accelerator and CT sim in 2025, and thus best data for assessing one full-time equivalent has come from 2024, when the VA was staffed by 1.5 full-time physicians who shared the following annual workload:
- 285 consultations
- 1150 follow-ups
- 135 new starts (approximately 80% IMRT; 10% SBRT; 10% 3DCRT)
- 2500 fractions delivered

- Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT Simulator
- Eclipse treatment planning system
- ARIA record-and-verify system
- VA CPRS electronic medical record
Normal clinic hours are currently 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. All clinical performance is onsite at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. The position includes shared after-hours call responsibilities.
This opportunity may be particularly attractive to an experienced Radiation Oncologist seeking a stable, long-term clinical role with a predictable minimum commitment, established clinical support, sophisticated Radiation Oncology technology, and the opportunity to care for the Veteran population.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Board certification in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and maintenance of certification throughout the engagement.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Minimum five years of documented post-residency Radiation Oncology experience.
- At least three years of continuous Radiation Oncology work experience within the previous five years.
- At least five years of post-residency experience involving consultations, CT simulation, treatment planning, treatment management, and follow-up care.
- Experience with Varian linear accelerators (Edge or equivalent).
- Experience with IGRT, including Cone Beam CT.
- Experience with Eclipse treatment planning and ARIA record-and-verify systems, including 2D/3D conformal radiation therapy, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT.
- Experience with Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT Simulator or equivalent.
- Current BLS and other required VA clinical training/credentials.
- Current NPI.
- Current DEA registration in Maryland will be required.
- Ability to successfully complete VA credentialing, privileging, background investigation, and mandatory training requirements before providing clinical services.
- Ability to provide onsite clinical services at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.
- Fluent spoken and written English and ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, and multidisciplinary clinical staff.
Preferred:
- Prior experience practicing within the VA or another Federal healthcare environment.
- Experience with VA CPRS.
- Familiarity with VA credentialing, privileging, quality-management, peer-review, and documentation requirements.
